Top 20 films from Doc/Fest Audience Awards

By Hussain Currimbhoy 26 June, 2012

So that's how you do a Sheffield Doc/Fest 2012.

With the audience award winners announced, I thought I'd give it a little time for the dust to settle to publish our top 20 audience award favourites.

A very eclectic mix here, reflective of the audience Doc/Fest attracts for sure. A love of historical film with generous use of archive is present in this list, along with an appetite for issue driven films with a human edge like 'How to Survive A Plague and 'Baka: A Cry from the Rainforest'. Music is popular as ever with 'Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet', 'Jai Bhim Comrade' and 'From the Sea to the Land Beyond'.

Audience appetite for the experimental still makes me smile with the exquisite ¡Vivan Las Antipodas! And 'Question Bridge : Black Males' making a welcome appearance on the list.
