Disinformation poses a global threat to society. Surrounded by videogame history, this unique participatory event seeks out opportunities to address disinformation through games.

Information is being weaponised to divide, distract and destabilise human societies. In the search for imaginative ways to counter disinformation, how can the power of the games industry be harnessed to build resilience in audiences? Participate in lively discussions with industry experts working in the games sector, disinformation, and policy to explore the challenges and opportunities for addressing disinformation through games, with opportunities to exchange ideas, play games and network over drinks.

Speakers:
Ellen Judson (Independent Disinformation and Tech Policy Specialist)
Michael Hunter (Game Designer)
Ed Hodgson (Associate Director for Research, More in Common)

Moderator: John O’Shea (Creative Director & co-CEO, National Videogame Museum)

Speaker Bios:
Ellen Judson worked on investigations into information threats from gendered disinformation to climate disinformation, how online spaces affect information risks, and how digital regulation in the UK and EU should be responding. She has previously worked for the NGO Global Witness and the cross-party think tank Demos, where she led the digital research team.

Michael Hunter has an MA in Game Design from the London College of Communication, where he is working as a designer in residence. When not working for LCC, he runs his own micro-studio, writing, programming, and designing games which encourage playful reflection on ideology and worldview.

Ed Hodgson runs the research for More in Common UK, a nonpartisan think tank and research agency dedicated to strengthening social cohesion and understanding the forces driving division and polarisation in Britain. He has led the research into video game audiences for the ‘On Their Terms’ project using video games to tackle misinformation and strengthen media literacy.
