Filmmakers and legal experts examine rising global threats to protest and press freedom, and share practical tools for protecting those who document movements on the frontline.
In an era of rising authoritarianism around the globe, the right to protest – and to document it – is under threat. This session will explore the rising risks faced by filmmakers documenting protest movements, from surveillance and censorship to legal repercussions and political violence. With input from filmmakers on the frontline and legal experts specialising in protest and media rights, we will offer practical guidance on safety protocols and legal protections, as well as critical insight and practical tools for those working to protect the right to record.
