Part of The Alternate Realities Exhibition; free to enter, hosted at Yorkshire Artspace. By Sheffield based team, Maisha Wester and Human Studio.

Coded Black should be considered a Resistance Simulator. Composed of two scenes—a plantation and a modern city—this single-player narrative-driven experience explores the history of anti-Blackness, its contradictions, motivations and nightmarish consequences for all.

Exhausted by the Real Horror that is racist ideology and systemic oppression? Look to the light: shining globes featuring evidence of Black humanity, innovation, intellect, resilience and willpower. Narrated by two young Black girls—one American, the other British—the experience reminds players that the fight for justice does not require power or assets or social influence; it only requires a determination to see an end to racial violence and subjugation, and the will to honor your commitment through your actions.
This is not an easy experience, but it is a necessary one. Suitable for ages 16+
