Eva Dzhyshyashvili’s contemplative film details rural life for a couple whose world is irrevocably impacted by conflict but whose resilience perseveres.
Married for over 30 years, Hannusia and Dmytro live in the shadow of the Carpathian Mountains. Time in this remote, rural world passes slowly. Winter can be as harsh as summer is idyllic. But the couple and their family face a new challenge when Dmytro, having fought in a conflict in East Ukraine, returns home with only one leg. The burden of work is placed on Hannusia, as her husband faces up to the limitations of his new life.Dzhyshyashvili’s film skilfully locates the trials of her subjects’ lives within the wider scope of regional and international affairs.
