Blood in the Mobile (work in progress screening) (Blod i mobilen)
The mobile phone revolution has come at a price. The idea that the source of minerals that make up the phone in your pocket may be mined illegally in Eastern Congo is not one consumers are going to want to hear. Filmmaker and activist Frank Poulsen exposes the child exploitation and human rights abuses in ‘Blood In The Mobile’ to raise awareness of the issue and to make mobile phone manufactures more accountable. With the proceeds of illegal mining funding the civil war in the Congo for years and children forced to work for 72 down narrow mineshafts, the need for change could not be more urgent. Utilising social networking tools and video blogging during the filming, Poulsen puts himself on the line to address an example of corporate indifference that effects the lives of millions of people.
