Home from Home (Endstation der Sehnsuechte)
In the 1970s there were waves of Korean women who left behind families, children and their homes to live and work in Germany. Many married German men and settled down to live regular German lives. Now after more than 30 years three women fulfil a desire for home and return to with their husbands to live in a Dogil Maeul, a little piece of Germany in the heart of Korea. The balancing act is a shaky one with a maze of cultural divides that are crossed with touching moments of understanding between husband and wife as well as hilarious instances of good intentions that are just lost in translation. the question of ‘home’ and if we can ever really get it back is challenged by Korean ex-pat director Sung-Hyung Cho. This German village is an anomaly that plays right into Cho’s attraction to the experimental and the bizarre in life while finding powerful human stories of love within them.
