Snowblind
Rachael Scdoris is a woman of remarkable drive and resilience. She is 23, legally blind from birth and is about to race in her third Iditarod, a gruelling 1,100 mile dog sled race through Alaska. Her father is also her trainer, a fiery man who works tirelessly with her and the team of dogs to prepare for the race and its extreme conditions. The endless Alaskan backdrop is breathtaking and sublime, but it harbours a temper that has broken many well sighted and experienced athletes. Following her throughout the 15 day race, Rachel loses dogs, comes close to giving up and being destroyed by frostbite but it’s not enough to stop her. In fact, it is the source of considerable ecstasy for a woman who is driven to be the best. Exhilarating, dangerous and heartbreaking, Director Vikram Jayanti’s latest doc is an emotional ride into a harrowing world, and a memorable testimony to the strength of the human spirit.
