Women - Activists
Forty years after the heyday of the women’s liberation movement, young British women are coming to feminism for the first time. Their anger is fuelled by issues such as the objectification of women, male violence, as well as prostitution and pornography. This episode from Vanessa Engle’s new three-part documentary series for the BBC follows a group of young fired-up feminists in London. “I have the feminist rage,” admits Finn Mackay, founder of the London Feminist Network. “It becomes impossible to leave your front door without being mortally offended.” Engle explores the women's motivations for becoming activists, with publications like Nuts and Loaded being prime factors, while observing preparations for the first annual Feminism in London conference, where hopes are high that numbers will be impressive.
