Sometimes sorry seems to be the hardest word. For Richard, it’s also integral to successfully completing a 12 step recovery programme. He should know: he’s done a number of them over the past two decades and his ex-wives, estranged brother and grown children no longer take his mea culpas very seriously. In fact, they’re still quite pissed off at his years of outrageous womanising, drunken antics and financial screw-ups. But this time Richard means business. At 69, he’s determined to undertake a “rigorous moral inventory”, which includes not only trying to make amends for his many transgressions against his family, but also the businesses and strangers he’s ripped off over the years. But even as Richard successfully repairs some relationships, he’s still busy chalking up new grievances, particularly towards his new girlfriend and her very unimpressed teenage son.

"Richard Kuchera, the supremely flawed subject of Joshua Neale’s documentary “Despicable Dick and Righteous Richard,” has a personality ready-made for the movies."
