A Fierce Green Fire
In five compelling acts, Oscar-nominated director Mark Kitchell explores fifty years of the environmental movement, in a masterfully told story of a struggle to save the earth that is far from over. Beginning with the Audobon Society, founded to protect birds with precious plumage, the movement has been marked by passionate activists up against the intransigent forces of government and big business. Kitchell weaves together interviews with a wide range of activists with a rich archive of moving images, as he highlights a major battleground in each chapter. Some of the footage is jaw-dropping, such as the New York State Health Department’s denial that 56% of children born with birth defects had anything to do with the 20,000 tons of toxic chemicals being pumped into their gardens in New York’s Love Canal. A must see film for anyone wanting to understand and take part in the movement to save our planet.
