Plagued by both OCD and schizophrenia, Sean Clifton had long been known as a harmless eccentric in Cornwall, Ontario. That changed in 1999 when Clifton brutally stabbed a stranger outside a Walmart. Declared 'not criminally responsible', he is sent to a forensic psychiatric facility and spends years progressing under medication and continuous psychiatric counselling. With astonishing access to Clifton's world, veteran Canadian director John Kastner takes a masterful 360 degree approach to the crime and its repercussions. He follows Clifton as he moves back into the community and uneasily shares a flat with a fellow offender. Clifton emerges as a reflective, likeable man, attempting to overcome his demons. But his victim remains traumatized and fearful of Clifton. This is a story without villains; it offers both a valuable insight into the treatment of mental illness and a moving study of forgiveness.
