Police, Camera, Action! Docs on cops have been a staple of television schedules, and have traditionally fallen into two categories: those which seek to document the changing face of modern policing, and those which are happy enough to tag along on a motorway pursuit. Channel 4's recent documentary series, ‘The Force’ directed by Bafta-winning Patrick Forbes, has been hailed as offering up a fresh approach. Determined to reinvigorate the genre, it uses the conventions of gripping TV dramas to enhance microscopic day-by-day access to the incident rooms of major police investigations.
