Doc Day Afternoon
When?
Wednesday 5 November 2008 10am - 6pm
Where?
Hallam University Student Union Building, (HUBS) Paternoster Row S1 2QQ.
Why?
DocDay Afternoon is an inspiring, intensive and entertaining day of hands-on workshops, screenings and filmmaking surgeries. Participants must all be working on a short documentary at the time of the workshop, whether individually or in groups. The aim is to get finished docs of about 4-minutes ready to put out into the world. Some of the best documentary practitioners from around the UK – directors, producers, editors and commissioners - will be there to help with the production process!
Who?
DocDay Afternoon is for A-level and first year university students (or 16-19 year olds) who are making, or want to make, documentaries and could use help from the experts. There will be presentations, workshops and a range of leading industry mentors available on the day to help students with their short doc productions, giving feedback, advice and technical assistance. The mentors are a mix of award-winning directors, commissioners, TV executives and other documentary professionals - students will never find this kind of access to industry advice at any other event in the UK.
How?
DocDay Afternoon requests that teachers get students thinking about their short documentaries from as soon as they book – they must arrive at the workshop ready with a project(s) to think about. Teachers are encouraged to bring groups of participants working together rather than individual film-makers students and teachers are strongly encouraged to get direct advice in advance from Suzana or Charlie in the Doc/Fest Office on +44 (0)114 276 5141 or charlie [at] sidf.co.uk to help prepare for the workshop day.
Students are welcome to bring footage in order to get tips and criticism to help them make the best documentary they can.
Cost?
£10 per student - for just £10 you get the full talks, workshops and an exclusive documentary screening (see itinerary below). Teachers accompanying a group of students go free!
