The Sheffield Doc/Fest Annual Festival Report is now available to download and view here. The Report confirms the Festival’s position as a major fixture on the international documentary festival circuit. Building on the success of previous years, new CEO & Festival Director Liz McIntyre steered Doc/Fest 2016 to new heights with overall audience numbers increased by 4.6% to 32,769.
A total of 3,534 industry delegates (up from 3,422 in 2015) from 60 countries included a significant proportion (43%) of first time industry delegates, while 20% had been to the Festival five or more times. Furthermore the Festival remains a hub for emerging talent and audiences with 34% of overall industry delegates coming from the independent sector.
The Festival continues to build on its appeal to the under 34s: of the 29,235 public audiences 58% were 34 years and under, while 21% of public audiences were aged between 16-24 years. A number of outreach initiatives this year also resulted in reaching new diverse audiences, including those from areas of low engagement and with 8% self-identifying as deaf or disabled (up from 6% in 2015).
