X.awards ceremony short doc audience award david chang

Sheffield Doc/Fest is excited to announce a new artist commission for a regionally-produced Awards Ceremony trophy that represents the heart of the Festival, and of Sheffield.

The Sheffield Doc/Fest Awards Ceremony is the Festival’s core means of celebrating the best documentary films and interactive projects being produced in the world today. Award categories offer a range of criteria to recognise the strength of films in the programme, from new talent to environmental documentary; from innovation in storytelling to the Grand Jury Award. Sheffield Doc/Fest is seeking a physical award that honours the Festival’s passion for these films and projects – something that filmmakers will be proud to accept.

Sheffield Doc/Fest is an internationally recognised and lauded festival with films, projects, and filmmakers coming from all over the world, but the Festival also has a great sense of local presence, audience and pride. Sheffield Doc/Fest is commissioning an artist to produce an award that represents this local pride, something regionally produced with a sense of the city.

The selected commission will be the focal point of the ceremony and gain significant exposure via international press, photography circulated year-round, and more. Recipients of awards in the past include Oscar-nominated films 5 Broken Cameras, The Square and Cartel Land plus multi-award-winning films The Act of Killing and follow-up film The Look of Silence, You've Been Trumped, and Marina Abramović: The Artist is Present.
