Deutsche Welle Placement Opportunity

German Broadcaster Deutsche Welle will attend Sheffield Doc/Fest this year to meet with new and emerging filmmaking talent, offering an opportunity for a paid 6-month work-experience placement within their documentary team in Berlin.

Deutsche Welle (DW) is Germany’s public international broadcaster. DW has television programs in four languages and online content is available in 30 languages. Every week, DW reaches audiences of more than 135 million people worldwide.

Deutsche Welle are looking to offer:

-       A six month work experience placement contract paying 1480,00 Euro per month

-       Mentorship from their experienced documentary team

-       The chance to develop innovative short doc ideas.

Who is this for?

This work experience placement scheme is not for complete beginners. DW do need to see some solid evidence of experience working in factual television. DW are particularly interested in giving young talent a foot in the door, so graduates with great ideas and technical skill are also eligible. Applicants from all over the world are welcomed, but it would help speed up the process if you have residency rights in the EU.

DW are looking for creative people who are passionate about storytelling, have a global outlook and are interested in Germany. Language skills or at least the willingness to learn German very quickly are necessary.

How to Apply

Applicants should pitch proposals for short docs and cross platform projects to be developed with DW. State why you think your ideas would be best suited to Germany’s international broadcaster. Applications should also include a curriculum vitae plus a description of practical journalism experience and work samples. Please also state availability for the work experience placement.

Applications should be directed to
