Pia Hellenthal is a Cologne and Berlin based writer & director working in fiction and documentary. She graduated from Academy of Media Arts Cologne with a Diploma in Media and Fine Art. Her films screened at various international film festivals like Karlovy Vary and Berlinale, where she shortlisted for the Teddy Award and the Documentary Prize and received prizes like the Special Mention in CPH DOX Competition and Outview Audience Award for best film. 
Giorgia Malatrasi is a Berlin based author and creative producer who graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Communication and Semiotics. She has lived and worked in Milan and Berlin, where she spent ten years of her career in content creation, working in the areas of short and long-form documentary at a global media company, while simultaneously developing her own personal work on storytelling in photography and film. She has a three-year-old son, who was born while Searching Eva was being made. She currently floats between a handful of identities, while learning to embrace each one of them.


What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Pia: Fearlessness.

Giorgia: I don’t know what perfect happiness is.

What lies at the heart of your own desire to make films?

Pia: Therapy, also My grandma never painted the paintings she thought she should due to my grandfather so I am taking vengeance.

Giorgia: Untold stories.

What are the first things you do in developing a film idea in response to a subject?

Pia: Project the topic im into on everything & everyone.

Giorgia: I read and research.

What’s your favourite film and why?

Pia: A woman under the influence by John cassavetes cause it was the first film that physically pained me. Also Wanda by Barbara Loden because it’s beautiful.

Giorgia: Fitzcarraldo, because of the descent of its actors and characters.

Pia: I’m a victim of this song by Pipilotti Rist - a remake of Chris isaaks wicked game, which i badly wanted for searching Eva but could not have due to rights and the 30k that isaak wanted for it. Now everyone, listen to it on YouTube for free !

Pia: People who are braver than me.

Giorgia: I have the opposite of a foot fetish. Does that count?

What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?

Pia: People who are braver than me.

Giorgia: Traveling, humor, guys with dark curly hair, shameless women.
