Following an incident of disrespectful behaviour and derogatory language by one audience member to another at one of our events over the festival, it’s imperative to remind all those attending future Doc/Fest events – both industry delegates and members of the general public – that our intention is to always create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.
We strive to create an environment in which all people – regardless of race, gender or background – can watch and feel comfortable discussing documentaries. Even when it is lively or heated, debate must be respectful.
Our Safer Festival Policy includes a zero-tolerance policy on harassment of all kinds and requests that our audiences are active bystanders, looking out for each other.
Doc/Fest celebrates diversity, promotes equality, and challenges injustice by giving a platform to a spectrum of voices and a multitude of perspectives, each sharing, shaping and questioning the stories of our time.
We will continue to work towards improving representation and access for all, and we will not, under any circumstances, tolerate disrespectful or derogatory language or behaviour at any of our events.
We are proud of the positive feedback we receive and we listen to – and action – suggestions about how we can make improvements.
