The image is impressed upon our collective consciousness: the Twin Towers cut against a bright blue sky, plumes of smoke billowing from the sides. To this day, the reverberations of 9/11 can still be felt. Usurping the tragedy to start a “war on terror”, the Bush administration – with Tony Blair’s backing – created tenuous connections between Iraq, Al Qaeda and WMDs to justify invading Iraq. Activists on both sides of the Atlantic quickly responded by challenging the legitimacy of the war. What began as separate and dispersed anti-war efforts began to cohere, resulting in the largest mobilisation of people in history: on 15th February 2003, over 15 million people took to the streets across the world to say no to war. In a series of gripping interviews, journalist and documentary maker Amir Amirani tells the story of this global phenomenon and looks at the consequences of the protests, from the failed intervention to stop the war to the rise of organised dissent in the post-9/11 era.

We Are Many features contributions from a remarkable cast including Damon Albarn, Brian Eno, Danny Glover, Richard Branson, Noam Chomsky, Ken Loach, Tony Benn, Lindsey German, Mark Rylance, Jesse Jackson, Medea Benjamin, Ron Kovic, Tariq Ali and Hans Blix.
