Utopia
  • Year2013
  • Duration110 min

For over 40 years, renowned filmmaker and investigative journalist John Pilger has travelled around the world to document the ongoing fight for human justice. Journeying into the red heart of his native Australia, Utopia is the most disadvantaged place in the country. Contained within the yawning expanse of rock and dust are the painful Aboriginal stories of genocide and “stolen generations”, a practice that continues to this day albeit under the sanitised name of “social care”. Despite being ostracised by a country that continues to whitewash its racist policies, the indigenous people have resisted and survived over 200 years of segregation. To this day, the government have not taken any measures to make right with Aboriginal communities, and it is not for a lack of resources. In a mind-blowing exposé – from lies about an Aboriginal pedophile ring to the blatant omission of the Frontiers War in museums – Pilger reinstates the secret histories of Australia.
