Last Days in Vietnam

Saigon, 1975. Two years after most troops pull out of Vietnam, 5,000 Americans remain in the country, many with young Vietnamese families. With the impeachment of the feared Richard Nixon, the Communist North Vietnamese begin a definitive march on Saigon. It's soon clear that those with any connection to the Americans face either death or imprisonment. U.S. public support for the conflict is at an all-time low and Congress refuses extra funding to support endangered Vietnamese. Meanwhile, the American ambassador sits in denial, not wanting to trigger panic by preparing to evacuate. Emmy award-winning Director Rory Kennedy tells the story of how a group of Americans frantically work to save the South Vietnamese refugees showing up at the American Embassy by the thousands. The clock runs out more quickly than anticipated, leading to the previously unthinkable: evacuation by helicopter, in a chaotic final act to a shambolic war.
