Annas is an 11 year old violin prodigy. He has the talent to be a world class musician, but opportunities are limited in his homeland of Tunisia. His father, Abderraouf, pushes him to do better while he works non-stop to find new avenues for Annas to develop. “I don't want him to waste his time like me,” says Abderraouf, an accomplished musician whose own father belittled his musical ambitions. Hichem Ben Ammar's film tracks Annas through auditions and competitions where he battles for chances to receive top-flight instruction, culminating in a place at the Yehudi Menuhin Academy in Surrey. At the same time, Ammar hints at how Annas' growing musical talent and exposure to the wider cultural world begin to distance him from his roots. The irony is clear: by achieving his dream for his son, Abderraouf inevitably must lose him. An uplifting and touching film about talent's inevitable rise, and about a father's dreams for his son.
