Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd knew they were talented. As best mates at Dundee College in the early noughties, they'd shared an affinity for creating fresh, original hip hop. But when they were laughed out of a London audition for being the "rapping Proclaimers" they realized sheer talent would not be enough. Their revenge was a total makeover -- as California hip hop artists "Silibil n' Brains". Before they knew it -- but after months of perfecting their American accents and back stories -- they had a record deal with Sony and were living the dream in London. Throughout the drink, drugs and endless groupies, the pair struggled to keep control of the spiraling deception. Director Jeanie Finlay brings their audacious story to life through ingenious animation by Jon Burgerman and abundant archive shot by Bain and Boyd themselves. CN Industry Screening Only
