Last year 1 million plus people fled across the Mediterranean to Europe. Over 3,770 died. Filming the story of these refugees – human trafficking, nightmarish sea crossings, treks through hostile borders, asylum-seeking in Northern Europe – is an urgent and challenging task. This panel of filmmakers, producers and commissioners discuss their experiences of making documentaries on the subject, fraught with technical, legal, moral and editorial obstacles.
