DOC SOCIETY FILMMAKER 1:2:1 DROP IN

Doc Society invites doc filmmakers of all levels to jump online for a 15min 1:2:1 session with members of our team. Chat with us over a virtual Yorkshire brew about creative documentary filmmaking, funding for UK short and feature documentaries, audience engagement strategies, impactful climate storytelling, the Good Pitch programme and where to access further support and resources.
To sign up for a 1-2-1 session please take a look at our team profiles below and register your interest for who you'd like to meet with. We will then contact you to confirm a slot, which will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. To participate in 1:2:1s you will need to be available on Tuesday 8th June between 12.00pm - 2.35pm. Sessions are open to all Sheffield Doc/Fest delegates and we're keen to hear from new and emerging filmmakers and those underrepresented in the sector.

OLIVER RIVERS - DOC SOCIETY, MANAGING DIRECTOR
Talk to Oliver about general funding questions, financing mysteries and contracts.
Oliver is Doc Society’s Managing Director. He is a trustee of three charities: Poetry London, the Legal Action Group, and the Britten Pears Foundation. He has an MBA from London Business School, but he did his first degree at the Royal College of Music, and music remains one of his great passions.
LISA MARIE RUSSO - BFI DOC SOCIETY, FUND EXECUTIVE
Talk to Lisa Marie about the BFI Doc Society Fund, our support activity and any feature documentary producing conundrums.
Lisa Marie is the Executive of The BFI Doc Society Fund. The Fund aims to develop storytellers from all parts of the UK, backing feature and short film projects with bold cultural and social ambitions.
SHANIDA SCOTLAND - DOC SOCIETY, HEAD OF FILM
Talk to Shanida about The BFI Doc Society Ripple Effect Fund, BFI Doc Society Fund and Climate Story Fund.
Shanida Scotland is an award-winning commissioning editor and executive producer, working within documentary film and audio. Shanida is the Head of Film at Doc Society. Before Doc Society, Shanida was Commissioning Editor at The Guardian and worked long term at STORYVILLE, the BBC’s multi award-winning flagship international documentary strand.
SANDRA WHIPHAM - DOC SOCIETY, DIRECTOR
Talk to Sandra about the BFI Doc Society Funds and Doc Society's wider work plus any editorial tips.
Sandra, who joined Doc Society as its fourth Director in January 2012, exec produces films across the slate, oversees the BFI Doc Society Fund and Doc Academy.
Previously, Sandra was a producer through her own company where she produced and executive produced a range of documentary film and television including multi award-winning Enemies of the People (dir. Thet Sambath/Rob Lemkin). From 2007-9 Sandra was Editor at More 4, and commissioned the True Stories international documentary strand.
HANNAH BUSH BAILEY - BFI DOC SOCIETY, PRODUCTION MANAGER
Talk to Hannah about applying for BFI Doc Society shorts and features funding, nitty gritty production, budgeting and scheduling questions and resources available.
Hannah Bush Bailey is the production manager for the BFI Doc Society fund. She works across the funds feature slate and Made of Truth Short Scheme supporting filmmakers both in production and editorially. Her experience also spans a number of feature docs and high-end television series. Hannah has previously been involved in BFI Network X BAFTA Crew, BAFTA'S Guru Pro training scheme and Film London's Microwave Feature Film Development Scheme.
BEADIE FINZI - DOC SOCIETY FOUNDATION DIRECTOR
Talk to Beadie about your documentary impact campaign, Good Pitch and our Climate Story Unit which is home to the Climate Story Fund and Climate Story Labs
Having worked in documentary for the past 20 years, Beadie is in heaven in her role at Doc Society – befriending independent filmmakers globally, funding great films, brokering new partnerships and sharing knowledge. In addition to executive producing a number of films, Beadie is responsible for the global Good Pitch programme and helping develop tools for the field such as the Impact Field Guide and the Doc Impact Award. Beadie is also a super experienced documentary filmmaker.
NICOLE VAN SCHAIK - Doc Society, Director of Development
Talk to Nicole about the global Good Pitch programme, European funding and partnerships and impact strategies.
Nicole strategizes with filmmakers and impact producers on how they can use their films as a strategic tool for social or environmental change. She also brokers new and exciting partnerships with organisations from across civil society, including: foundations, philanthropists, NGOs, brands, policymakers, activists, technology innovators, and media for the global Good Pitch programme, and Doc Society as a whole. She is proud to be part of the 2017 Rockwood JustFilms Fellowship. Before joining the foundation, Nicole worked as a television journalist for broadcasters, including RTL News and Al Jazeera. She finished her MA in International Journalism in Cardiff in 2008, and has previously lived in The Netherlands, USA, South Africa, and Wales.
JESSICA EDWARDS - Doc Society Director of Impact and Partnerships
Talk to Jessica about distribution, audience engagement, impact strategies and climate storytelling.
With expertise bridging the worlds of creative media and non-profits, Jessica leads Doc Society's strategic partnerships and projects. Previously, she was an impact strategist on films such as Unrest, He Named Me Malala and Ida's Diary. She also has extensive experience working as a documentary and factual television producer/ director and subsequently, as an impact consultant, leading a number of high-profile projects with prominent NGOs. She is a qualified yoga teacher.
