UKTV 1-2-1 Commissioner Virtual Speed Meets | Thursday 10 June, 10:00-11:30 (BST)

*BOOKING FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED*

UKTV is a multi-channel broadcaster owned by BBC Studios and home to seven TV channels and video on-demand service, UKTV Play. The broadcaster is currently looking for factual and factual entertainment ideas for W, Yesterday and Gold. Each of these channels have specific audiences and a unique tone of voice. To find out more about each, click here.

As part of the online industry programme at Sheffield DocFest, we are hosting an opportunity for you to pitch your factual programme ideas to UKTV commissioners in an online 1-2-1 meeting on Thursday 10 June.

The Brief

W is a premium entertainment channel on Sky, Virgin, BT and TalkTalk. It is aimed primarily at an upmarket, female-skewing audience, but while the core demographic is women aged 30-39, all ideas need to be suitable for co-viewing. The current focus on the channel is fact-ent formats that can be commissioned in high volume, that are returnable and repeatable. These ideas should be sticky and have the ability to draw in an audience without talent attached. Tonally, ideas should feel authentic, rewarding and irresistible to the viewer. We are not looking for ideas already well-served on free to air channels such as relocation or makeover shows.

Yesterday is a leading free to air factual channel on Freeview, Freesat, YouView, Sky, Virgin, TalkTalk and BT. The focus on this channel is to provide outstanding factual content that viewers can become fully immersed in. The core audience is older, upmarket, male skewing and people who generally get a buzz from learning something new. The channel is looking for character driven obs-docs set within a precinct. Areas of interest include engineering, planes, trains and automobiles, collectables and similar subject matters. Ideas must feel authentic and nostalgic as Yesterday viewers are interested in real people with expertise. The channel is also calling for ideas with a British focus, and something that feels celebratory in this space. We are not currently looking for history documentaries.

Gold is a pay channel also available on Sky, Virgin, BT and TalkTalk. It’s for comedy lovers and the aim of the channel is to provide viewers with a guaranteed laugh. They tune in for top Gold talent, much loved titles and headline grabbing ideas. Factual and factual entertainment ideas being pitched for Gold must hero archive shows already on the channel.

We welcome ideas from all producers, preferably attached to a production company but not essential.
