Shaminder joined the Specialist Factual team in 2017. She has overseen the critically-acclaimed series Grayson Perry: Rites of Passage as well as the Artists in Residence strand, Random Acts and Grierson-nominated Angry, White & American with Gary Younge. She co-commissioned award-winning The Big Narstie Show, and commissioned Britain’s Most Historic Towns, Genderquake: The Debate and What Makes a Woman with Munroe Bergdorf. Shaminder has a wealth of experience in heavyweight journalism. She was Deputy Editor of Channel 4 News from 2012, and prior to that, was Deputy Editor of Newsnight. As Deputy Editor of Channel 4 News 2012, she was involved in overseeing TV and digital coverage for the multi-award-winning prime-time daily news programme. She oversaw planning and coverage of the Scottish Referendum, General Elections and the EU referendum and its aftermath. During her time at Channel 4 News, the show won the Royal Television Society award for News Programme of the Year three times and in 2016 won a BAFTA for its coverage of the Paris terror attacks.
