Bhavani Shankar is Professor at SOAS University of London. He is an economist working on food issues, particularly on the links between food, health and environmental sustainability. Much of his research examines how food consumers, industry and governments make decisions relating to food, and how these decisions can be improved to provide better economic, environmental and health outcomes. His recent projects have examined health and environmental aspects of foods ranging from palm oil to fruit and vegetables, and has been funded by the Wellcome Trust, the UK Government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, amongst others.
