Here's a few reasons why volunteering with Doc/Fest is a great way to kick off your summer...

You'll get amazing insight into how one of the UK's biggest film festivals is run, including a fantastic opportunity to build a network of industry contacts, as well as fellow festival-goers and film-lovers!

You'll play an integral part in delivering the festival - a highlight in Sheffield's cultural calendar - whilst getting great experience, as well as something to put on your CV. On top of all these benefits, you'll receive:

A free ticket for every film shift you complete

Simply visit the Festival Box Office on Tudor Square after your shift to claim your complimentary ticket, pick a film from the programme and enjoy!

A free Doc/Crew branded t-shirt & personal Doc/Crew Volunteer Pass

These will be available to collect at the Showroom Cinema on your first shift. Make sure to register for your volunteer pass, by following the link after you apply. If you need us to re-send you the link, please email volunteer[at] sheffdocfest.com. Remember to upload a headshot no later than 20th May to ensure we can print your pass in time! These must be worn at all times to help our delegates identify you as the helpful and friendly Doc/Crew that you are, and they’ll be yours to keep for years to come.

Invitation to the Doc/Crew closing party

You’ll get an invite to the Doc/Crew closing party on the last day of the festival, and you don’t want to miss it. There’ll be pizza, prizes, and of course, partying. A great chance to unwind after a challenging but rewarding week.

Become a member of the Doc/Crew alumni

You’ll receive a regular e-news with opportunities in the film, arts and events industries, as well as updates on opportunities to join the Doc/Fest team to help with our year round activity. Many of the team working in the office now started as a volunteer - and you could be next!

Access to free OTOXO Productions Documentary Filmmaking Workshop

Our friends at OTOXO Productions will be hosting a 3-hour filmmaking workshop on Tuesday 11 June, 14:00 - 17:00, at The Void Cinema, that includes valuable tips and tricks, advice on how to kick start your career as a filmmaker, as well as a chance to ask your burning questions to people working in the industry. Information on how to sign up for this workshop will be coming soon.

Need a place to stay? We know that a lot of our volunteers travel from far and wide to come to the Festival, so for the first time this year, we've partnered with UNITE Students to offer affordable accommodation to volunteers travelling from outside of Sheffield. There are a number of rooms available across several UNITE Students buildings in the city centre, from Monday 3 June through to Friday 14 June. Prices range from £70 - £115 per week. Bedding and kitchen access are bookable extras, available from UNITE Students.

To check availability and for more information on how to book, please contact STLteam [at] unitestudents.com

There are also a number of volunteers who have a spare bed to offer over the festival. If you need a spare bed, please email the team at volunteer[at] sheffdocfest.com.
