Animal, Vegetable, Mineral is a new podcast series asking scholars, filmmakers and industry professionals to think on their feet and share their insights about what documentary as an artform is and can be.

Animal, Vegetable, Mineral is a new podcast series asking scholars, filmmakers and industry professionals to think on their feet and share their insights about what documentary can be, what it can do better and where it is going, all in the context of urgent contemporary concerns of racial, economic and climate justice, state violence, authoritarianism, freedom of speech and freedom of movement. We will highlight films that address these concerns in unique and innovative ways, bringing film specialists into dialogue that encourages a deeper engagement with the complexities of our world. Weaving together carefully edited conversations with leading and emerging scholars and makers, extracts from films, and our own reflections, this podcast actively contributes to public debates on documentary, whether political, ethical and/or aesthetic.

For this live podcast recording, we are delighted to be joined by Asmae El Moudir, director of The Mother of All Lies. This unique and innovative  film has its UK premiere at SheffDocFest.
