Audio Caña is the self-described greatest storyteller in Calabozo, Venezuela. His latest tale is about the 19ft alligator living in his pond. But could it be true?
Beasts and tales are the essence of everyday life on the Venezuelan Plains. A huge snake eats the family’s chickens and an alligator is eating Audio’s employees one by one. As stories and realities blur, this magical realist fable honours the storyteller Audio, the speaker of tales, as well as his most devoted listener, his six-year-old granddaughter. In a world so deeply connected with nature, perhaps these stories aren’t as outlandish as they seem.
