In this hypnotic cinematic journey through dreams, sleep and the unconscious, science meets myth and ancient rituals illuminate the mysteries of the mind.

When the pandemic brought so much of the world to a stop, Marcelo Gomes entered a period of isolation, during which he discovered he had stopped dreaming. A scientific article on sleep and dreams leads him to renowned Brazilian neuroscientist Sidarta Ribeiro. Together, they embark on a cinematic journey through the anthropological and scientific landscapes of dreaming. Drawing on the psychological concept of ‘Creatures of the Mind’, the film explores how different societies – ancient and modern, Western and non-Western – have understood the unconscious, symbols, trance states and folklore. Encounters with a medium in Pernambuco, Brazil, and the Indigenous thinker Ailton Krenak deepen this exploration, which bridges science and myth. Visually striking and intellectually rich, this film offers a profound cinematic dive into the mysteries of the dreaming mind.
