Contrasting images of a women’s shelter with the vast complexes of empty new-build flats, this film questions the density and division of space in Tehran.

This film explores the unbalanced density in the concept of place – the unbalanced division of space in the city of Tehran. It’s a reality that the filmmaker reveals through voiceover narration, based on her research and through the photographs taken a decade ago by an Iranian female photographer who captured the lives of women occupying a semi-public shelter in a poor neighbourhood of southern Tehran. It’s a stark contrast to the modern, empty high-rise buildings in the city's northern districts.

This film will screen as part of the programme Shorts: Iran - A Sense of Place.
