Eva Neymann documents everyday life in Odessa’s vast market, recording the thoughts of its traders and visitors, and highlighting its role as a vital artery in the city.
Spanning seven acres in the centre of the Black Sea port city, Pryvoz has existed for almost 200 years. It is Ukraine’s biggest market and is one of the largest in the world. Neymann captures daily activity there – the interaction between sellers and shoppers, who ruminate on camera about its past, present and future. All walks of life can be found at Pryvoz, the variety as rich as the produce on display. Security guards, a flea market manager, fortune tellers, shoppers and traders share their thoughts about their world and how it has changed.
