For 30 years Maja’s piano has sat silent. Now she is returning to the dream she lost when, fleeing the conflict that consumed Sarajevo, she stopped composing.
When the Bosnian war started in 1992, Maja and her family fled Sarajevo, leaving behind her promising career as a composer. For 30 years their old apartment lay empty, and Maja’s piano sat untouched. Trying to rebuild a new life in the UK, with motherhood as her priority, Maja’s dreams slowly fell to the wayside. Now, with the help of her daughter Aleksandra, who directs this very personal documentary, Maja is returning to her piano to compose once again.

This touching film is both intervention and collaboration, showing how trauma lingers across generations, and how creativity has the power to heal.

This film will screen as part of the short film compilation Choosing to be Seen.
