A courageous whistleblower prompts an investigation into the true history behind a Pulitzer-winning photograph.

The work of photographers during the Vietnam War exposed horrors committed against the local population to a Western audience largely unaware of the scale of the atrocities. Nick Ut’s The Terror of War, also known as Napalm Girl, highlighted the unspeakable violence experienced by children, prompting global protests and calls to end the war. But a claim by former Associated Press photo editor Carl Robinson raised doubts over the image’s origins. Bao Nguyen’s relentless journey to find the truth locates a photographer known only as ‘the stringer’, who some argue took the photo. The film that emerges from this investigation tackles racial injustice and journalistic ethics as it questions why Vietnamese photographers' essential contribution to this conflict have been lost to the sands of time.
