We’re delighted to be part of this year’s Arts for Impact campaign to help fund our 2025 Community Programme.
Donate to us through the BigGive platform between midday 18th March and midday 25th March, and they will double the amount – so you can make double the difference to DocFest.
The Community Programme at Sheffield DocFest is all about expanding the festival experience for our local audiences, including free workshops curated by, for, and in collaboration with, people and communities across our city, as well as free tickets to festival screenings and events.
Last year we were able to include nearly 100 people from across the region at four community events, which ranged from a creative writing group with musician Hak Baker, to dance workshops delving into the rich cultural heritage of the Palestinian dakbe. In addition, over 350 participants enjoyed free tickets to our screenings and events, including our opening night. Click here to explore last year’s programme.
Access to arts and culture is often not possible for people from marginalised groups, young people, and those who face barriers to participation, even though many of the films we show speak directly to marginalised experience and urgent issues.
Our community programme is intended to target underrepresented groups and those who otherwise would not engage with our programme, to provide supported entry ways into our events and workshops.
Through making, discussing and experimenting, these workshops help bring local people together to engage with documentary film and art, and reflect on the connections between the themes and issues explored on screen and their own lived experiences.
What exactly will your money be going towards?
The money you donate will:
- Support our provision of free workshops for local audiences
- Fund free tickets for screenings at the festival for community groups
- Enable us to extend our marketing to help reach underrepresented local and regional audiences.
